ABOUT US: DWAYNE HASKINS, CEO/President | ABOUT TAMARA HASKINS,
CFO | ABOUT SBP Born
in Plainfield, raised in Highland Park, and currently living in Kendall Park,
I have been a resident of Central New Jersey for over thirty years. Throughout
my life I have participated in activities within my community but my desire to
serve the community came about in 1988. That year beloved mother died and I was
emotionally exhausted and confused. I felt alone, empty and incomplete. During
this transitional period of my life I also had to contend with completing school
while working in a discriminatory job environment. Nonetheless, the voice of my
dear departed mother resonated ever so clearly in my mind, and her words continuously
motivate me to this very day: "Don't risk success by not trying. Don't underestimate
yourself. Remember by learning and practice, you can do anything you make up your
mind to do. Don't wait for improvement to happen, make it happen."
The effect of my mother's words on me has been a new attitude and a different
outlook on life. After reflecting on the plight of African-Americans it was
clear to me that we needed more positive role models, good parents and leaders.
I was tired of seeing brothers and sisters handing out on the street corners
destroying themselves and others; I was equally disturbed with the negative
portrayal of African-Americans in the media. I wanted to offer something but
was afraid that there was nothing I could offer. In addition, I became disappointed
with the structure and design of the African-American night life. This lifestyle
lacked purpose for me. Desiring more, I decided to turn my concerns into actions.
Offering my skills and personal assets, I sought to bring unity to the African-American
community by establishing an organization that could provide significant social
contributions. In 1991 I founded Soul Brothers Production Company and it grew
from being a private organization whose members sought to bring about social
change; into a non-profit motive organization seeking to serve our communities.
Consisting of a group of inspired professionals, the members work collectively
to promote and produce gospel music and strive to make a positive impact by
providing spiritually-oriented events which economically, educationally, and
culturally enrich all communities. We have provided Kwanzaa Celebrations, Fund-raising
events for churches and community organizations, and most notably produce gospel
performances.
One of the offspring of Soul Brothers is the "NO EXCUSES"
mentorship program. This program offers young adults the ability
to develop careers in the entertainment industry by mentoring them
in such areas as: broadcasting, journalism, videography, business
management; promotions, sound engineering, and stage design. We
are constantly seeking youths to participate in "NO EXCUSES"
and also encourage the promotion of education. Another outgrowth
of Soul Brothers is "Le Harp Music Group" which is a management
company that works with artist management, concert promotions, artist
repertoire development, booking agents, legal consultants, and financial
planning and consulting for artists. In both of these areas we seek
to promote and uplift the members of our community.
I am most grateful to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for providing me with
the opportunity, perseverance, strength and faith to serve God and my community
in this way. I am also thankful of my loving wife, Tamara, and the joys of my
life, my son, Dwayne Jr. and my daughter, Tamia, for supporting me throughout
my endeavors.
